Continuing on with this handsome subject still, I’ve been working over the mane and down around the neck and behind the jaw line. I had drawn in the basic texture and direction of the jaw/cheek area, knowing that I wanted to go over it again to strengthen the form and deepen the tone: this photo shows nicely why. At the moment that area looks too flat and they don’t look like the belong on the same subject at the moment. But that’ll get worked on during the finalising stages. For now, the effort is going towards working up the entire piece to the same level and then refining and tweaking areas that need it. Not a short process, but one that I think works well. And I’ve still got to work on that white stripe and the bridle’s leather and metal work. No fun if it’s not a challenge though.
