I’ve been really busy this past week, so much so that its been difficult to find any time for creating anything. I did however manage to find time today for a colour sketch, so I had a go at sketching this water lily. I liked the bold striking colours and the reflection in the water, which made for a nice sketch. Whilst the water effect isn’t entirely how I’d like it, it wasn’t the focus of the sketch so I’m not too worried about it right now: the focus being the lily itself came out quite well I think, and I’m getting used to how the various colours layer up on the pastelmat surface. Its a balance that needs to be worked out 100% still, as each colour behaves in a different manner – but I’m getting there with them. I also hope to be able to get back to drawing proper very soon, but I’m not going to be abandoning the progress I’ve made with the pastels either.
