The last of the three miniature drawings for Christmas was this sweet little Wren.
Always a pleasure to see, these characterful little birds tend to stick to the undergrowth in search of food, but will occasionally dart out quickly to grab some food from a feeder before darting back into cover. They are very well camouflaged, with a predominantly earthy down colouring with some small tight patterning to break up their outline.
As such, depicting this on such a small scale was a fun challenge to work with, and I think I pulled it off nicely. I feel like I’m really getting to grips with the coloured pencils now, and this little one is I think I good indicator of the progress I’ve made so far. So it is going to be interesting to see how 2020 comes along with it all.
