23-03-20 – Barn Owl WIP

This part of the process is always my favourite one, where I start to build up the colour and the detail. As you can see, I’ve made good progress around the face disk and have started moving up the left wing.

The face disk in particular has some wonderfully subtle colours around and in the eyes, and with the soft texture implied by some very soft warm greys makes for a very striking portrait. Starting up the wing with those very soft feathers and intricate detail makes for some challenging intensive areas to work on with lots of very small details adding up to create the whole, not to mention several layers of colour to bring it to life.

Next task is to finish working up this area of the wing before working on the flight feathers and then starting work on the next wing. There are lots of very interesting colours in this piece that is going to be very interesting to work with, and I’m very much looking forward to seeing how this one evolves.
