“Species of British Tits”

If there’s one thing I really like about Spring (other than the warmer, dryer weather, sunshine and the flowers waking up after winter), its the proliferation of birds that I see when I’m out and about or in the garden.

I’ve been doing a lot of small sketch pieces based off of the various birds that I see day to day, with some birds being more commonly seen than others such as the Blue Tit and rarely seen such as the Bearded Tit.

With these sketches, I wanted to see if I could mix up a bit my approach, so I tried different things with each one. As you can see, some are more detailed and closer to finished than others, with some just having the barest indication of colour in certain places to just define their edge. An interesting experiment I think, and the end result with all of them together like this makes for an interesting sketch collection.

From the top left going clockwise we have Great Tit, Crested Tit, Willow Tit, Coal Tit, Blue Tit, Bearded Tit and Long Tailed Tit.
